All or Nothing
In the beginning was Nothing, and Nothing did not know itself. A tale from the book «Por qué ríe la brisa» (Why the Breeze Laughs) about how Nothing discovers it is All.
The text
In the beginning was Nothing. And Nothing was not. It was nothing. Nothing existed, and so Nothing reigned. It was a Nothing complete in itself. It lacked nothing.
And there was no before and no after. There was no timeline for that Nothing to rest upon. So there is no sense in saying there was a beginning, but that is how the story goes. Nothing contained itself and nothing else. But nothing contained it. There was nothing that could contain it. And Nothing did not know itself. It did not know it was nothing. It did not know it did not exist.
And Nothing was playful. It wanted to know. It wanted to exist. It wanted to know that it existed. But since it did not exist, and could not know it, it created itself. It was its own first creation. In the middle of nothing, Nothing began to exist. It was not a blackness, it was not a void. It was still nothing. It still did not exist, but it began to play at existing.
And Nothing was loving. Nothing knew nothing. But in creating itself it learned that it was a very beautiful Nothing. There was nothing in it to interrupt its beauty. It learned that it was unique in non-existence, and so Love arose. It began to love the creation of itself. It loved its own not-existing, and its existing within that not-existing. It loved, and that Love was its second creation. And Love said to Nothing: "Thank you!" "It was nothing."
And Nothing was joyful. Love filled it with Nothing. That Nothing overflowed with Love. And Love said to Nothing: "Sing me a song." And Nothing began to sing. And that song was called Everything. And that Everything was made of Nothing. Everything was nothing. It was the reflection of Nothing. Then Nothing could behold itself in its reflection. And its Love grew. And Love filled Everything. And Nothing loved Everything. That Everything was its third creation. And Everything said: "Thank you for everything."
And Everything was beautiful. Nothing looked at itself in it, and it looked at itself in Nothing. And they shared Love, which flowed happily between that Everything that was nothing and that Nothing that was everything. Everything did not exist either, but Nothing played that it did. So Everything took on its own existence. And Existence was its first creation, born of the Love between Nothing and Everything. And just as Nothing created the song of Everything in many melodies, Everything created Existence without end, and all its creations were an eternal movement of a whole existing of forms, colors and expressions.
And Everything was curious. It expressed the wholeness of Nothing upon Existence. With a smile it spoke Non-Existence over it. And so it created the Infinite. And the Infinite was its second creation. And that Infinite held all forms, all colors and all expressions.
And Everything was happy. It wanted to celebrate its creations. It wanted to keep creating as it itself was being created. And it made a bridge between the Nothing that created Everything and Everything's own creations. And that bridge was called Eternity. It was its third creation. And it placed Eternity over the Infinite so they would always be together. And it rested Existence upon them, so the celebration would be eternal and infinite.
And Existence was perfect. It was full of Infinity and brimming with Eternity. And at its origin it kept its Non-Existence as Nothing. And its Infinitude it called Being. And in Infinitude, it was infinite Beings. And each Being, in its Infinitude, held Eternity. And each eternal Being had its own forms, its own colors and its own expressions. Each Being, in its Eternity, kept the bridge to Nothing.
And each Being was free. As part of Everything, and keepers of Eternity, each could change its form, color and expressions at will. And that power was called Will. And at will, many chose to sleep. And after a rest, many of them chose to wake.
And each Being was an adventurer. And all of them began to learn the song of creation. And they gave their Eternity to creating. And they spent their joy perfecting their creations. And they brought the beauty they saw in Everything and the perfection they glimpsed in Nothing to polishing their form, blending their colors and harmonizing their expressions. And they aimed their growing at the Infinite that sheltered them.
And each Being gave thanks for the vibration of its song. And Everything gave thanks for the diversity of its Existence. And Nothing gave thanks that in the midst of everything, there still existed nothing.
