The music in the episodes

No episode of Existes has music composed for it. Everything you hear is classical music in the public domain, and not only the work: the recording too. A Chopin prelude belongs to everyone, but the pianist who recorded it last year owns their performance. So every piece comes from an open archive, usually Wikimedia Commons and Musopen, where the performer released it.

The music is chosen after the voice is recorded, never before. First comes the text as it was read, with its pauses and its breathing; only then do we look for a piece that walks at that pace. And the music dips on its own whenever the voice speaks, so it accompanies without covering.

  • Erik Satie, Gymnopédie No. 1 — Robin Alciatore, Musopen.
  • Erik Satie, Gnossienne No. 1 — La Pianista, Wikimedia Commons.
  • Edvard Grieg, Peer Gynt, “Morning Mood” — Musopen Symphony.
  • Johann Sebastian Bach, Air from Suite No. 3 — Air Force Strings, United States Air Force Band.
  • Johann Sebastian Bach, Goldberg Variations, Aria — Kimiko Ishizaka, Open Goldberg (CC0).
  • Johann Sebastian Bach, Fugue in G minor, BWV 578.

Every video closes with a quena farewell, from a collection of traditional Andean music.
